Info on AMCAS Letter Pilot and List of Medical Schools Participating in the Pilot for 2009 Admissions Cycle
If an applicant is applying to one or more of these schools:
- He/she should indicate in his/her AMCAS application that his/her letters will be in the form of a “committee letter/letter packet.”
- He/she should enter you (the advisor) or your designated representative as the “Primary Author/Contact.”
- If you are including letters from others in your packet, it is not necessary for the applicant to list those letter writers in the “Additional Authors” section of the AMCAS letters tab.
- After entering this information on the AMCAS application, the applicant will be provided with a printable form containing an AMCAS Letter ID. He/she should either provide you with the form or provide you with the Letter ID.
- You do not need to include the form with your PDF or to put the number physically on the PDF. We suggest that you retain the form or notification of the Letter ID in the applicant’s file in case any questions arise.
- You do need to attach the pilot school(s) to the applicant record just as you normally would.
- Finally, and importantly, it is necessary for you to enter the AMCAS Letter ID into VE in the edit screen of the applicant record. Please double check the entry to be sure it is correct. Failure to enter that ID correctly may delay the processing of the applicant’s application at the pilot school.
If an applicant is not applying to any of the pilot schools, he/she does not have to enter any letter information into the AMCAS application, will not have an AMCAS letter ID, and you don’t have to do anything different with the applicant record.
